Susan M. "Suzy" Scott
Scott Triggers PLLC started with a simple premise: Reduce patient harm by preventing pressure injuries in surgical patients in the perioperative setting.
Susan "Suzy" Scott, MSN, RN, WOC Nurse graduated from Emory University ETNEP in 1989. After conducting research at the VA Medical Center in Memphis, TN, she developed the Scott-Triggers a concurrent trigger tool to identify at risk individuals for pressure ulcer in surgery. Suzy currently serves as Patient Safety/Quality Improvement Educator with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), College of Medicine, Office of Graduate Medical Education in Memphis. Additionally, she serves as an affiliate faculty member in the Center for Health Systems Improvement, and Clinical Instructor in the College of Nursing. Suzy is a notable pressure injury expert, researcher and author from the Veterans Health Administration, and an international expert in preventing pressure injuries in the OR. Suzy has developed and disseminated the Scott Triggers®, a concurrent trigger tool to identify at risk individuals for pressure injury in surgery: www.scotttriggers.com. Suzy was recognized as an "Edge Runner" by the American Academy of Nurses for the "Perioperative Pressure Ulcer Prevention Program" (PPUPP) and was recently named as a subject matter expert for the American Hospital Association's Hospital Innovation Improvement Network (HIIN) project for 2016-18 as they aim to reduce hospital-acquired pressure injury from the ED and OR.
